KUCHING: Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association (Sheda) is now actively involved in a mass recalibration programme for migrant workers in Sarawak.

“It is part of the association’s initiative to relieve the current shortage of workers in the construction industry,” said its president Augustine Wong Chung Ho.

“Sheda is now embarking on a registration drive. Member companies which are in need of assistance to renew their foreign workers’ work permits and visas are encouraged to register with us,” he added.

He said that the drive was based on the outcome of a meeting held between the Sarawak government represented by relevant authorities and Sheda on Monday (Aug 16).

“The objective of the registration drive which will be carried out statewide starting Wednesday is to ensure smooth and fast track recalibration of foreign workers, which will be made possible with assistance rendered by various authorities including the including Labour Department and Immigration Department,” he explained.

Wong added that Sheda would identify the companies requiring assistance in recalibrating their foreign workers and guide them on the procedures of applications and documentation required to be submitted to both the Labour and Immigration Departments.

“However, we would like to emphasise that only migrant workers who have entered Sarawak legally are allowed to be recalibrated.

“On behalf of the association, I would like to thank the various departments which have offered their assistance so that the mass recalibration drive could come true,” he added.
