Covid-19 cases breach 200,000 mark

KUCHING: The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak broke the 200,000 mark on Monday (Sept 27) with the addition of 2,723 new ones.

The number of daily cases showed a slight decrease compared to 2,943 recorded on Sunday (Sept 26), with a total of 201,812 cases to date.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 2,711 or 99.56 per cent of the new cases were in categories 1 and 2, while 12 were in categories 3, 4 and 5.

“Kuching recorded the highest new cases with 888, followed by Samarahan and Miri with 249 each, Sibu (228), Sri Aman (184), Bintulu (119) and Serian (105).

“Additionally, only double and single-digit cases were detected in Asajaya, Sarikei, Betong, Saratok, Kanowit, Limbang, Bau, Meradong, Pusa, Kapit, Belaga, Lubok Antu, Pakan, Lundu, Lawas, Subis, Simunjan, Marudi, Dalat, Tebedu, Beluru, Tanjung Manis, Kabong, Bukit Mabong, Tatau, Selangau, Mukah, Julau, Daro and Telang Usan,” SDMC said in its daily Covid-19 update on Monday.

SDMC said 19 new deaths from Covid-19 were also confirmed between Sept 7 and 26.

It added that the death cases consisted of individuals aged between 41 and 92, all of whom had histories of various comorbidities.

“An 87-year-old woman, a 67-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman died on Sept 7, 18 and 23 respectively, while three women and a man succumbed to the virus on Sept 24.

“Apart from that, 11 deaths consisting of six women and five men were also recorded on Sept 25, while one woman died on Sept 26.”
