SARATOK: “In politics, one should have principles to avoid a split,” asserts Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) political veteran Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz.

He depicted such a scenario when alluding to Datuk Ali Biju, who is supposedly expected to defend the Krian state constituency seat in the upcoming 12th State Election.

As such according to him, in politics, one should have principles to avoid division.

“I think in a situation like this, if he is really a principled person, Ali does not have to think long. This is for his political future.

“He should also know how to maintain his relationship with the Sarawak government and the federal government.

“It’s not that we don’t like him, it’s not like that. We really appreciate his services,” he told our reporter on Thursday (Nov 11).

While the decision on whether Ali will contest in the 12th State Election is still a question mark, the former Kalaka assemblyman is of the view that it is difficult for Ali to use the Bersatu ticket, unless he is contesting as an independent candidate.

“Although he feels there is still strong support there (Krian), or maybe his supporters are urging him to contest again, the problem is, over which party?

“If he wants to use Bersatu, does the president (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) agree?

“If he persists, there is only one alternative, which is to contest as an independent candidate … That’s all,” he stressed.

Elaborating further, Abdul Wahab said Muhyiddin is unlikely to allow Ali to use the Bersatu symbol as it will be at loggerheads with the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) — as the two are cooperating with each other.

“We (PBB) have already agreed to support the candidate nominated by the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), it is understood that the PDP has also sent their candidate for the Krian seat — so, we support them.

“For me, PBB Kalaka will work with PBB Krian so that we can support the PDP/GPS candidate for Krian,” he explained.
