BINTULU: Just a day after a 14kg metal fragment believed to be debris from China’s Long March 5B rocket was found in Miri, another semi-circular metal shaped object has been discovered in a private palm plantation here yesterday.

Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomew Umpit said the object in the shape of a horseshoe, was found around 9am in a four-inch-deep hole at the end of the road of Kampung Hulu Nyalau, Samalaju.

“The area is being closely monitored and the public are advised not to approach the area as it is feared that the object may contain radioactive material which can be harmful to health.

“We have requested assistance from the Fire and Rescue Department’s hazmat team and the Bintulu Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) to analyse the area and inspect the object,” he said.

Batholomew reminded the public not to make any speculation or spread false news because it could cause public nuisance.

Should they have any information related to the matter, they are urged to contact the nearby police station.
