KUCHING: The wait is over for couple Yusuf Kamil, 34 and Nuridzyan Syawani Ja’afar, 33, as the documentation for citizenship for their adopted daughter, Mikayla Hanna is now approved.

The family received the citizenship document from the National Registration Department (NRD) Sarawak director Awang Afferoz today.

Present to witness the occasion were as Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, Deputy Minister Datuk Rosey Yunus, the ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Dr Rashidah Bolhassan, Social Development Council executive secretary Dr Zufar Yadi Brendan Abdullah and Sarawak Social Welfare Department director Noriah Ahmad.

Met by the media, Yusuf disclosed that application was made on September 2019 and it has been worth the three-year wait.

Yusuf further explained that Mikayla was adopted since she was one year old and under the care of Sarawak Social Welfare Department. She is presently enrolling in a kindergarten.
