KUCHING: More corporate and private entities as well as NGOs should join the effort to beautify the city.

Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said these included enhancing open spaces and roundabouts to make them more user-friendly.

“I welcome more corporate organisations and NGOs to develop Kuching’s open spaces to support the government’s smart and beautiful development efforts,” he said.

The Pantai Damai assemblyman stated this at a press conference today (Feb 21) after the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between DBKU and Unimas Holdings Sdn Bhd to establish the Petra Jaya Heritage Park Educational Playground.

He said the collaboration was the fourth time DBKU worked with business groups to enhance the park and adjacent areas.

“We improved the Samariang roundabout with a company, then the Sesco roundabout with Sarawak Energy, and finally a playground.

“With our fourth project with Unimas, we are using educational aspects to transform the open land adjacent to Heritage Park into a modern recreation and leisure area.

“It also intends to improve the city’s safety as well as aesthetics, in keeping with DBKU’s concept of making Kuching safe, beautiful, smart and sustainable,” he added.

He also hoped Unimas would organise more such programmes.

DBKU Director Mohamed Khaidir Abang and Unimas Holding Sdn Bhd General Manager Dr. Abang Ekhsan Abang Othman signed the MoU.

The ceremony was attended by Unimas Holding Sdn Bhd Interim Chairman Datuk Mohd Fadzil Abd Rahman and Unimas College of Cognitive Science and Human Development Dean Amalia Madihie.
