KUCHING: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) urges the Sarawak government to accelerate the Covid-19 vaccine supply and purchase.

Its central committee publicity secretary, Arthur Wong said waiting for the vaccine and vaccination had become a luxury.

He pointed out that Malaysia and Sarawak should not fall prey to the conflict between China and the United States.

“Delay in carrying out vaccination each day will see more people infected and face the risk of death.

“While (poor country) Bangladesh has started vaccination, Sarawak and Malaysia are still waiting for the vaccine. While Indonesia and Singapore have also started vaccination, we are still studying which to use.”

Wong also said that the decision to purchase effective and inexpensive vaccines should be done as soon as possible.

“This is a race against time. The movement control order has severely affected the economy. This has resulted in the termination of business activities, leaving people with zero income.

“It is time to remove and set aside political and religious factors in order to decide which effective and inexpensive vaccine to vaccinate the people with as soon as possible. It is only through this that there can be hope of controlling the spread of Covid-19, which in turn will restart commercial and economic growth.

“The current approach of selectively starting some commercial and economic activities before the Covid-19 is under control is providing unsatisfying results. The number of infected and dead continues to increase,” he said.
