KUCHING: Acid Rain, with their song ‘Manuk Bauh’, clinched the top spot at the 9th Edition of the Bidayuh Song Chart Awards, securing a cash prize of RM5,000 along with a trophy.

Following closely in second place was Mezzavoce with their rendition of ‘Bukang’. They were awarded a cash prize of RM3,000 and a trophy, as well as RM1,000 for securing the Best Vocalist category.

Jackson Boson’s song ‘Indi Kirasah Intan’ was honoured as the most popular song, earning a cash prize of RM1,000 and a trophy.

Officiating the opening ceremony of the 9th Edition of Bidayuh Song Chart Awards at RTM Kuching on Saturday (Oct 28) was Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem.

During his address, the Serian MP encouraged the Bidayuh community to provide continuous support to the local Bidayuh music scene, especially in adapting to the changing times.

“Let us provide support by purchasing the tickets of our local artists and buying their music.

“This is one way by which we can promote them. If we can buy international concert tickets. Why can’t we do the same for our local artists?,” he said.

Furthermore, Dr Richard said the local music scene, particularly for Bidayuh artists, is not a glamorous world, thus requiring much-needed support from everyone to propel the Bidayuh music industry forward.

“For local artists, especially Bidayuh artists, it is not a world of glamor and with social media at our fingertips, it gets even harder.

“I hope by organising events such as these, it would provide an opportunity for music composers to produce better and higher quality songs,” he said.
