KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is creating diversion in order to cover the inner issues of the party.

According to Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Anwar’s recent statement about Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) was to draw people’s attention away from his party’s problems.

“One obvious example of PKR’s issue is during the PKR party election, whereby its own leaders were accusing each other of bribing delegates.

“Therefore, I believe his statement that GPS is just changing the skin (parti sekadar bertukar kulit) was just to distract,” said Fadillah when asked about the statement yesterday.

Fadillah also said that even though the state is no longer under federal government, it is still able to continue those projects that had been approved by the previous federal government using its own allocation.

“We have proven it (ability to continue projects) even though we are no longer under the federal government.

“Besides, the members of parliament didn’t get any federal allocation. Instead, it is the state government that’s giving the GPS MPs funds which we use to service our constituents.

“Currently, most of the policies are decided by our own state government; if the federal government doesn’t allocate funds for projects previously approved the state government will give allocation for the purpose of accelerating project completion, especially those projects involving basic amenities,” he said.

“Nevertheless the state government still needs to cooperate with the federal government for certain jurisdiction and constitutional matters.

“Definitely we don’t have any other options but to cooperate with them.

“But in terms of claiming rights and advocacy, we are focusing on the state and our own society, especially now that we are not tied with peninsular policies, unlike before when we were tied by BN policies.

“Back then we were with BN. But now we are independent (of parties in Malaya) and operate with only Sarawak parties.

“GPS is a coalition of parties established for Sarawakians by Sarawakians. We are our own master and do not answer to PH.”

Fadillah said GPS will hold a roadshow once the coalition is launched and every PBB branch will be involved.
