Police arresting the two male suspects.

MIRI: Three individuals, including a woman, broke into a rented room of a budget hotel here at Jalan Lee Tak on Monday night (1 Feb) to assault a 30-year-old female guest.

The woman then proceeded to accuse the guest of trying to snatch her boyfriend.

During the incident which occurred around 8pm on Monday, the guest was alone in the room as she had just arrived in the city from Lambir. She wanted to meet a man she had befriended for only two months but did not know he already had a girlfriend.

One of the individuals who assaulted her in the room was the man who had befriended her and the other woman.

Besides assaulting her, the trio allegedly also threatened to kill her. While in the room, they damaged her belongings as well.

After fleeing the room, the assault victim ran to the Central Police station (CPS) for help and to lodge a police report.

Acting on the report, less than seven hours after the incident, a police team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) detained two male suspects in connection with the case.

The men, aged 24 and 35, were apprehended in front of a budget hotel in Jalan Duranta around 2.05am on Tuesday (Feb 2).

However, the female suspect is still at large.
