BAKO: Bako Bridge at Kampung Bako is now 83 per cent completed and will be ready by March 16, 2018. “The only problem we had was during the land acquisition but the matter has been dealt with already.

“The bridge itself costs RM42 million while another RM6 million was spent on land compensation and also the construction of the road,” explained Assistant Minister of Coastal Road, Datuk Julaihi Narawi during his visit to the bridge yesterday.

Work on the bridge commenced in March 2016. “This project is funded by the state government and part of our efforts in connecting the coastal areas by road,” added Julaihi. Another state funded project, the RM67 million Datuk Temenggong Abang Kipali interchange via shallow underpass, is also 83 per cent completed. Work on the underpass, which began in November, 2015, is expected to be ready in February next year.

Yesterday, Julaihi also visited the 320-metre long E-Mart – Stapok Bridge which was 80 per cent completed. The RM122 million bridge is a federal funded project and an alternative route for commuters to travel to areas in Stapok and Matang.

“Traffic will be diverted to this road to ease the traffic jams in the city centre. “What is left is the road construction and we are waiting for the soil to settle down to ensure the road constructed above it does not bend. “Hopefully, this project will be ready by February next year,” said Julaihi.
