KUCHING: Betong Division Football Association (BDFA) has not ruled out the possibility of organising a football tournament for youth under the age of 20.

BDFA president Abang Suhordie Abang Zaini (pix) said that the focus of the implementation of the tournament will be for the four areas which include Betong, Pusa, Saratok and Kabong.

“We do see the need to organise a tournament for that group of players (Under 20 years old).

“It is a good pathway because it can indirectly be used as a foundation in preparing a group of young talented players for the football clubs in Sarawak,” Abang Suhordie told New Sarawak Tribune and its sister paper Arena Suara Sarawak.

However, Abang Suhordie, who is also the deputy president of FAS, added that his side needs to discuss in more detail with the Sarawak Football Association (FAS) first before the organisation of the tournament can be finalised later on.

“Maybe we will organise tournaments in all four areas on different dates with the two best teams from each of the mentioned districts qualifying for the finals for the championship,” he said.

He hopes that his party’s plan to organise the tournament at youth level will be able to achieve its true objective which is contributing to the development of football in Sarawak.

“I would like to see talented players from Betong become an asset to the football clubs competing in the highest level here in Sarawak.

“By organising this tournament, it will also enable us to add more excitement towards our calendar year,” he added.

BDFA as of now is scheduled to organise the Betong League and Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas UggahEmbas Cup.
