BAU: Village security and development committees (JKKKs) have been urged to work hand in hand with their respective village chiefs and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government in bringing development to the villages.

Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said it would be difficult if the JKKKs were not on the same page with the village chiefs and their elected representatives.

“Now N1 (Opar) is under the opposition… our duty today is we must support the government of the day – GPS government,” he said when presenting appointment letters to JKKK secretaries for Tasik Biru and Opar constituencies at Bau Civic Centre on Saturday.

“There is no other choice. You have to be with the government of the day, with the GPS government. If not, just step down and give others the chance,” he told the newly appointed officials.

He said supporting GPS was to ensure that development plans would be implemented particularly for the development of the villages.

In the meantime, he urged the newly appointed secretaries to prepare a checklist for their respective villages.

“The checklist must include projects requested, those completed and those that are yet to be carried out and proposed projects.

“This is important as we enter the 12th Malaysia Plan next year, the checklist will allow us to have a more organised development planning,” he pointed out.

Henry also urged the respective village chiefs to work out with the respective JKKK secretaries on when to call for meeting to discuss on matters concerning the villages.

“Sometimes, the village chiefs do not call for a meeting, and the villagers would not know what is happening. That is a problem.

“So, the JKKK secretaries acting as the right hand assistant, need to cooperate with the village chiefs to set a date for a meeting,” he said.

A total of 57 secretaries for JKKK Bau district received their appointment letter from Henry.
