RAZAILI Gapor (GPS-Beting Maro) has called on the state government to set up a Regional Development Agency in Betong-Sarikei to boost the agriculture industry as well as to increase the source of income of the rural community, especially in Beting Maro.
“The establishment of the agency should come at the right time as the state government has agreed to make the area (Betong-Sarikei) a ‘food basket’ in the state.
“A modern manufacturing plant with international food certification is needed at the Nipah Industrial Park,” said Razaili at the State Legislative Assembly sitting yesterday.
He also said the provision of agriculture infrastructure, especially irrigation and drainage systems, opened up opportunities to develop the land in Beting Maro with commercial crops such as Pineapple Premium MD2, Kelapa Pandan, Matag, Kelapa Tacunan, coffee, pepper as well as fruits such as Musang King durian, lemon and mango.
“In order to increase economic value and additional income to the farmers, the government is also urged to develop the Agro-Based Industry as well as the Construction of Agricultural Product Packaging and Packaging Collection Centre (CPPC) and Anjung Entrepreneur in BetingMaro,” he added.
