SIBU: The Kong Yit Khim Road here will be upgraded to a dual carriageway, said Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) deputy chairman Wong Ching Yong.

He pointed out that the road which would stretch from Sibu Water Board to Durin Bridge would enhance the value of land around the area.

“The four-lane road will link Sibu Jaya with the main road to Sibu, Sarikei, Tanjung Manis, Kuching and other places. The area around the Kong Yit Khim road is still sparsely populated.

“We hope that with the completion of the four-lane road, the government will invest more money to upgrade the basic facilities here, such as improving the wireless internet access,” he said when addressing a dialogue session with local residents held at the basketball court of Citizen Secondary School, Jalan Kong Yit Khim here on Sunday.

The meet-the-people session was organised by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong Branch.

Wong who is chairman of SUPP Dudong said the road project had been approved by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for implementation under the 12th Malaysia Plan.
