MIRI:   A study on the right mechanism to enhance policing and its accessibility to the rural community will be carried out, assured Sarawak Deputy Commissioner of Police Datuk Dev Kumar M M Sree (pic).

“We need the right mechanism to ensure effective police services are delivered to the community, especially those in the rural areas,” DCP Dev said when met yesterday after officiating at a ‘Townhall Discussion’ session held at Sarawak Islamic complex here.

“We want to carry out a study on how best way we can deliver our services to the community,” he reiterated.

He said the police may consider re-locating investigation officers (IO) to small areas such as Batu Niah and Bekenu in Mir.

“We will look into ways to solve the situation…Sarawak is unique, we have a lot of rural police stations, and in order to make the process smooth, whenever rural community approaches us to lodge police report…we need to find the right mechanism on how to solve the situation,” he said.

Responding to an alleged misconduct involving Bekenu police personnel raised by the floor, DCP Dev assured that he would conduct an investigation.

He also reminded public not to simply make baseless accusations,   unless they they have solid details on the alleged misconducts.

“It would be not fair for us (police force) if public simply accused us but no details on the alleged misconducts are provided.

“It’s not that I’m not encouraging public to report on any misconduct on my men, but please provide us with the details, so that we can carry out investigation,” he said.

Nearly 200 people came for the townhall which was aldo attended by Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah.
