Seizure of diesel in an area near Kuala Segan by Bintulu KPDN enforcement officers last Saturday.

BINTULU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) here successfully thwarted an attempt to misappropriate subsidised diesel, seizing 6,000 litres near Kuala Segan last Saturday (Feb 3).

Bintulu KPDN head Al Redzamani Abdul Razak revealed that the seizure occurred following the detection of a suspicious skid tank capable of holding 10,000 litres of diesel during patrols conducted by KPDN enforcement officers.

“The owner of the site failed to produce any documents such as permits or licenses authorising the storage of diesel from KPDN, prompting the confiscation of the ‘skid tank’ along with the estimated 6,000 litres of diesel, valued at approximately RM28,900,” he said.

An investigation paper will be initiated, with the case to be examined under the Control of Supply Act 1961 and the Control of Supply Regulations 1974.

Al Redzamani pointed out that individuals or companies found guilty could face legal repercussions, including court proceedings or imprisonment.

Bintulu KPDN has been inundated with complaints regarding diesel syndicates through various channels, including social media, e-complaints, WhatsApp, and phone calls, according to Al Redzamani.

He highlighted the persistent issue of diesel shortages, which have been the subject of numerous public complaints, including those from celebrities.

In response, Bintulu KPDN has adopted proactive measures, conducting daily monitoring and inspections of all petrol stations through Op Tiris.

“This enforcement initiative aims to ensure compliance among petrol station operators to prevent irregularities and leaks involving controlled goods such as petrol and diesel.

“Petrol stations found colluding with diesel embezzlement syndicates will face strict consequences, including licence suspension or revocation,” Al Redzamani added.
