Body in suitcase murder victim, say police

KUCHING: The remains of a body found in a suitcase near a river jetty in Bau on Thursday evening have been classified as a murder victim.

Sarawak CID chief SAC Denis Leong said the unidentified remains clad in black shirt and brown pants was found by a member of the public who was fishing there. He saw a suitcase with foul smell emanating from it and called the police.

  Fire and Rescue department personnel were called to the scene to retrieve the suitcase which was locked and blood flowed out when it was hauled up.

  Firemen then forced open the suitcase and found the body of a man with his eyes celotaped. Both his hands and legs were tied up. 

On Wednesday, a woman from Jalan Green here lodged a police report that her husband had been missing from a shopping complex in Jalan Tun Jugah.

  She said after her relative requested for the supermarket CCTV, footage showed her husband surnamed Wong went into his Lexus car with two men following at 2 pm on Tuesday. The car was also missing.

Since then, her husband had gone missing yet to be found and calls made to him went unanswered.

  When contacted, Leong said the body has yet to be identified. He added it was still too early to say what happened and assured that police would carry out thorough investigation.
