KAPIT: The body of the last victim involved in the capsized boat incident at SK Lepong Balleh, Jalan Melekun, was found in the Seputin area, located 2 km from the site of the initial incident at 11.30 am today.

Kapit district police chief DSP Rohana Nanu said the recovery of the body, brings the nine-day search and rescue (SAR) operation to an end at 12 noon.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), it was informed by a civilian who found a body floating in the area of the incident, prompting the dispatch of the rescue team to the location.

“After inspecting the attire worn by the victim, it was verified that the individual is the final victim, Iskandar Ibrahim, aged 28, involved in the boat capsizing incident.

“The victim was then handed over to the police for further action,” Bomba said.

Last week on March 7, the authorities received a distress call at 5.24 pm informing them that a fibre boat had capsized with five individuals on board, with one person rescued by a civilian boat.
