MIRI: A man’s body was found floating face down about eight nautical miles off Lutong beach here yesterday.

According to Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, the body was spotted by the crew of a platform supply vessel (Alkahfi Maryam) nearby the West Lutong area around 9.50am.

The body was believed to be that of a fisherman who was reported missing in the waters off Kuala Bakam on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) commander Salehuddin Zakaria, when met at Marina Jetty yesterday, said a team from Miri Bomba and Miri MMEA was deployed to the scene to recover the body.

“The body was taken onboard and brought to Marina Jetty,” he said.

The remains were later sent to Miri Hospital’s morgue.

On Thursday morning, a fishing boat belonging to 71-year-old Kadri Tera was found anchored about 500m off Kampung Kuala Bakam beach.

However, Kadri was nowhere to be found near or inside the boat, prompting a search and rescue (SAR) operation.
