KUCHING: The establishment of a Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex in Telok Melano will enhance border security between West Kalimantan and Sarawak, said Tanjung Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu.

She stressed that the CIQ complex was important to control and reduce the entry of illegal immigrants into Sarawak.

“When I first became assemblywoman of Tanjung Datu, my intention was to enhance the border security here in Telok Melano.

“With the establishment of the temporary CIQ post today, this will help to safeguard folks living in Telok Melano,” she said at the earth-breaking ceremony of a new mosque and entrepreneur ccentre ‘Anjung Usahawan’ in Telok Melano yesterday.

Jamilah also said tightening the West Kalimantan-Sarawak border would curb the spread of Covid-19 virus. “Bearing this in mind, the establishment of the CIQ will help us to contain, not only the Covid-19 virus, but also other infectious diseases, including rabies and JE (Japanese encephalitis).”
