BELADIN: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg wants the gula apong (nipah palm sugar) industry in Kampung Tambak to be developed as soon as possible.

Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor, when making the statement, said efforts to develop the industry were highly emphasised by the chief minister as Kampung Tambak was Malaysia’s largest gula apong producer.

“He (Abang Johari) always asked the relevant officials about the progress of the project at each state-level development coordination meeting.

“A few days ago, Deputy Chief Minister and Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that Abang Johari wanted his ministry and the Beting Maro branch to speed up the development of the industry.

“In fact, this year, the Chief Minister has allocated RM2 million specifically for the development of the gula apong industry in Kampung Tambak,” he said at the 4th Beting Maro Food Festival here, yesterday.

At the same time, Razaili expected full cooperation from Kampung Tambak villagers towards realising this.

He added that he also has plans to produce high value-added products such as gula apong chocolate.
