KUCHING: A 35-year-old man from Kuching was arrested yesterday for alleged involvement in a job scam in Cambodia.

Sarawak Commercial Crimes Investigation Department chief Supt Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah said the suspect was arrested at the State Police Headquarters at 3pm after his statement was taken.

“Currently, further investigation is still ongoing,” he said yesterday.

He said the suspect was called in to assist in the case, but after the initial investigation, police found evidence of his involvement.

Mustafa said if the investigation could not be completed in 24 hours time, then the suspect would be brought to the Magistrate’s Court at 9am today (Feb 24) for a remand order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

“As of now, 18 male and five female victims have come forward to lodge a police report on the case,” he added.

On Dec 11, 47 Malaysians aged between 19 and 44 were detained in Banteay Meanchey Provincial Prison for alleged involvement in illegal online gambling activities and fraud.
