KUCHING: A patchwork quilt-making session organised by the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) drove home the point that challenges can be met, and even overcome.

In a social media post the SCCS said the recent activity, participated by parents and children undergoing treatment for cancer, yielded surprising results.

The most common initial reaction was hesitation to try because it necessitated coming out of one’s comfort zone.

“Some of the parents said, ‘I have never held a needle and thread, I won’t be any good at it’ and ‘This is too meticulous for a man to try, it’s hard, I can’t do it’.

“However, the artwork produced at the end was impressive for first timers,” it said.

The society pointed out that fighting cancer likewise is a new territory that can be terrifying for most families.

“With enough encouragement and support, families and children can gain confidence and hope that cancer is just another challenge in life to be conquered,” it said.

The society encouraged the public to help and support children in need to win this battle.

“You can sign up to be our monthly donor with just RM30 every month and help children fight cancer,” it added.

SCCS’s Heart of Gold monthly donation programme starts with a minimum amount of RM10 and those who are interested to donate can visit its website at https://sccs.org.my/get-involved/donate/.
