KUCHING: Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof welcomes the proposal to declare Nov 18 as a public holiday to facilitate the people’s movement to cast their vote on Nov 19.

The Petra Jaya incumbent described it as a good move but the final decision rests with the federal government.

“If it (Nov 18) is declared as a public holiday, it would make it easier for the public to carry out their responsibilities as voters in the 15th general election (GE15) on Nov 19,” he said.

Fadillah, who is caretaker Works Minister, stated that there are matters to be considered as the private sector would have to bear costs in terms of overtime wages and so on.

“As such the proposal needs to be looked at in detail. However, I do support the move in general,” he added.

Earlier, the Congress of Civil Service Employees’ Unions (CUEPACS) had mooted the proposal for a public holiday to be given to the people to facilitate their movement to their respective polling locations for the GE15.
