KUCHING: A Covid-19 positive case in Miri involving a passenger coming from overseas was not a local case, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

“For your information, she was found positive in Selangor after she returned from Tunisia recently,” said Uggah during the Covid-19 daily update yesterday.

He explained that while she was on transit in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), she was randomly selected and tested.

“The PCR test result would only be known on the next day. However, instead of waiting for the result, she flew back to Miri on the same day,” he added.

Uggah said that in the Health declaration form, the person did not indicate that she travelled to Tunisia before she came back to Sarawak.

“She failed to declare in one of the columns in the E-Health declaration whereby she did not indicate that she went out of the country in the past 30 days.

“Therefore, when she arrived in Miri, she was treated as a returning Sarawakian from Kuala Lumpur to Miri and not subjected to any quarantine requirements. Hence, she went home.

“The following day, we were informed by the authorities in Kuala Lumpur that her PCR swab test was positive for Covid-19.

“Currently the case is still under investigation,” he added.
