BINTULU: The clean water supply project in the Samarakan area has been included in the Sarawak government’s development plans.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan assured that it is currently underway, including work to increase the capacity of water treatment plants.
“This is not only in our plans for Rumah Rapael Ngau but will cover almost the entire Samarakan area.
“This also includes building several high-level water tanks, and all the plans have been submitted, with some already in progress and others still in the planning stage.
“I am confident that this area will enjoy the convenience of a clean water supply,” he said after attending the ‘Sembang Santai dan Demo Masakan’ programme at Rumah Rafael Ngau on Semarakan Road here today (Nov 2).
Also present were Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; Women and Early Childhood Development Deputy Minister Datuk Rosey Yunus; Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor; Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan; Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus; and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for the Jepak state by-election, Iskandar Turkee.
In other developments, Awang Tengah stated that the issue of land being utilised by certain parties as a campaign issue for the Jepak by-election indicated that those involved lacked the resources to garner votes.
“Politics aside, don’t incite. It’s as if we’re not doing any work. But in the end, those who believe in such slander will be the ones who suffer.
“This will slow down the process of land ownership for the people and create problems. I hope the people won’t easily believe in such provocations.”
In light of this, Awang Tengah said that the Sarawak government has implemented various initiatives to protect the people’s land rights, including issuing clear statements that the government is not seizing the people’s land as alleged.
