KUCHING: The Ministry of Health (MOH) aims to make Malaysia a leading hub for clinical research.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said that his aspiration for the country to be a hub and centre of excellence for clinical research and clinical trials is not about Malaysia being a lab rat for therapies and treatments that are not proven.

“We are talking about International level and world class clinical trials. And not something that is done in somebody’s garage, but rather something that is rigorous in terms of its safety profile and in terms of research efficacy.

“This is to make sure that we can deliver cutting edge therapy to Malaysians,” he said after witnessing the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), Novartis Malaysia, and Clinical Research Malaysia (CRM) at Clinical Research Centre (CRC) Auditorium in SGH yesterday (Sept 5).

Khairy pointed out that the duty and tasks to continue to educate Malaysians about the safety of clinical trials is very important and incumbent upon the MOH to continue to do so.
