KUCHING: The Borneo Highlands Resort (BHR) here has not turned into a jungle despite some rumours circulating about it, said Borneo Highlands Residents Club (BHRC) chairman, Lo Khere Chiang.

He said the resort, known as the Gem of Borneo, had been closed since 2020 due to management issues and because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“After the closure, the residents and property owners of the resort decided to form BHRC to oversee the welfare of the residents and resolve problems they were facing.

“The Sarawak government in the meantime had no choice but to terminate the joint venture agreement with the developer.

“In the interim, BHRC has taken over the maintenance services of the residential areas.

He said this effort by BHRC and state government was to dispel the rumours that BHR has turned into a jungle due to totally lack of maintenance.

“The members of BHRC have been waiting for too long for this Resort to be re-opened.

“Therefore, BHRC has initiated by holding our Club’s first anniversary celebration at this venue and the glamping festival has an overwhelming response from members and members’ guests,” he added.
