Collaboration deals to produce skilled workforce

KUCHING: The Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education (DPCCE), through its collaboration with industries in various fields, can help provide a competent and highly skilled workforce in line with the National Key Economic Areas (NKEA), said DPCCE Industrial and Community Collaboration Division deputy director Azureen Jaafar.

During the closing ceremony of the Career Enhancement Programme and Smart Partnerships between Sarawak Community College Industry 2019 here yesterday, she said 3.3 million workers are needed every year, of which 50 percent should be highly skilled.

“Therefore, there is a need to ensure that every worker in the industry, especially locals, receives sufficient exposure to enhance their skills and achieve the necessary competencies while contributing to the productivity and development of the industry.

“DPCCE has taken initiatives to collaborate with industries from various fields to prepare community college graduates for Industry 4.0 (also known as the intelligent industry),” she pointed out.

Azureen added that through this collaboration with industries, students are able to determine their direction through the courses they take. “This opens up opportunities for both parties to create a better working environment and workforce.” During the event, 11 industries signed collaboration agreements with community colleges in Sarawak.
