SERIAN: A fireman died in a road accident at KM6, Serian-Kuching Road last Sunday.

Sarawak traffic police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the victim, identified as Nickson Empary Gawan, 33, was heading to Kuching when the 6.30pm accident occurred.

“A car changed lanes from right to left at Jalan Loo Foo junction and was hit from behind by the victim’s motorcycle,” he said in a statement.

As a result, Nickson who sustained severe injuries to the head and body, died at the scene, while the driver was unharmed.

Nickson’s body was taken to the morgue of Serian Hospital and the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act.

In a Facebook post, the Fire and Rescue Department expressed its condolences to Nickson’s family.

“We regret that fireman Nickson Empary Gawan who worked at Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station passed away on Sunday (July 26) due to a road accident at Jalan Batu 35, Tarat, Serian.

“His body is still at the hospital for autopsy. The deceased is from Rumah Jawa, Kerubung, Selayang, Sarikei,” the post read.
