Continuous rain causes floods in Kapit Division

KAPIT: Continuous heavy rain in the division over the past few days has caused the water level of the Rajang River to overflow its banks, resulting in several areas inundated by flood water yesterday morning.

In Song District, floods hit SK Nanga Beguang, SK Temalat and Song Express Passenger Wharf Terminal.

Song Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) had deployed rescue teams to the affected areas to assist the flood victims.

At Nanga Sipan, Song, the water level rose to about a foot beneath Rumah Austin Ikau, while the kindergarten classes at the longhouse and at SK Nanga Temalat, and one of the teachers quarters were inundated by two feet of water.

Another rural primary school located downstream of Song Town, SK Nanga Beguang, was also hit by flood, affecting 34 pupils, 16 teachers and eight non-teaching staff of the school.

Meanwhile, the lower section of Song Express Passenger Wharf Terminal was also inundated by a foot of water which spared the Jungle Produce Market.

In Kapit district, the Kubu jetty was inundated by flood water.

Several individual houses in Kampung Muhibbah at Jalan Bleteh were hit by the flood water.

However, the flood water receded in the afternoon and the Song Express Wharf Terminal was back in operation.
