KUCHING: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized contraband cigarettes worth RM2,104,506.40 and arrested a local man in an operation codenamed Ops Libas today.

GOF Brigade commander SAC Mancha Ata said the raid took place at 9.30am on a house suspected of storing the cigarettes, at Lorong Setia Raja, Tabuan Laru in Kuching.

The team seized a total of 9,500 cartons containing 1,900,000 cigarettes and 4,217 clove cigarette cartons containing 694,520 cigarettes, as well as a Toyota vehicle.

“The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 and the seized items were handed over to the Padawan district police headquarters (IPD) for further action.”

On another note, SAC Mancha said throughout the operations carried out from the beginning of the year until yesterday, GOF recorded a total of 147 cases involving a total of 407 arrests, comprising 180 locals and 227 illegal immigrants, with total seizure valued at RM33,333,964.54.
