Cops crack robbery, theft cases with trio’s arrest

MIRI: Police believe they have solved several robberies and vehicle theft cases in Batu Niah with the arrest of a gang of robbers dubbed ‘Ako Gang’.

Three men, aged between their late 20s and 30s, were detained inside a hut along Miri-Bintulu Road, adjacent to Simpang Jawa, Batu Niah on Friday evening.

The arrest, led by Inspector Fredly Juing, was made at 4.44pm acting on a tip-off received.

Prior to their arrest that day, all three suspects were busy loading oil palm fruits into a four-wheel drive (4WD).

According to Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, police also seized a shotgun from the location.

The suspects were believed to have been involved in the armed robbery of an estate in Batu Niah last year on September 7.

They were arrested to assist police probe under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang-robbery, Section 4 of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 457 of the Penal Code for breaking into a house to commit burglary.
