KUCHING: The Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) is the main body overseeing Islamic affairs in the state, playing a role in ensuring the goal of fostering a proactive and productive Muslim community.

Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, stated that MIS has established four boards: the Fatwa Board, Baitulmal and Wakaf Board, Mosque Boards, and Islamic Affairs and Malay Customs Board.

“In this regard, Islamic agencies should fulfil their roles responsibly by implementing all policies decided by the Islamic Council of Sarawak perfectly,” he said.

The MIS also advises for Qunut Nazilah prayers to be held in all mosques and surau to pray for the safety of the Palestinian people and encourage contributions.

He made these remarks during the ceremony for the Presentation of the Sarawak Imam Professionalism Certificate (SPIS) Series IV/2023 and the Mosque Management Professionalism Certificate (SPPMS) Series I/2023 at the Sarawak Islamic Complex today.

The SPIS and SPPMS certificates are a joint effort of the Sarawak Islamic Council and the Malaysian Islamic Skills Institute Sarawak to enhance the professionalism of imams and members of the highest committees of mosques and surau in Sarawak.
