KUCHING: Muaythai Sarawak is looking into betting its 13 young athletes at the ongoing National Youth Muaythai Championship 2017 at the Starling Mall, Petaling Jaya, Selangor from July 6 to 9.

Most of the athletes are those who are in the early radar of the Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMNS) for two big tournaments namely Sarawak Sports (SUKSAR) 2017 and Malaysia Sports (SUKMA) 2018.

The president of PMNS, Haji Jumaat Ibrahim said most of the athletes are competing in different categories.

“Most of these athletes will be competing in their respective categories,” he said.

Meanwhile, Haji Jumaat thanked the Sarawak Education Department, MSNS, Sarawak Youth and Sports Department (JBSNS) for their support.

The state flag handing over ceremony was held recently in a leading hotel here and officiated by the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) director, Dr Ong Kong Swee.

Ong urged that the selected athletes who represent Sarawak in the championship to perform their level best.

“Undoubtedly, there are plenty of top athletes from other states that will participate, but I believe our athletes (Sarawak) can make a surprise,” said Dr Ong.

Among the athletes who will be participating in the tournament are Johan Ghazali (35 kg), Mikail Ghazali (23-25 ??kg), Syarif Nukman Norman (24 kg), Mohd. Rifdean Masdo (38 kg), Ayu Addyqa Azmi (42 kg), Maurien Hii Sie Lin (51 kg), Ayu Aryanfaiza Azmi (45-48 kg), Muhammad Haikal Zaidi (40.42.5 kg), Abdul Hadi Jamil (45-48 kg), Prtasarathee A/L Punniyamoorthy (48-51 kg), Awangku Abdul Rahman Awang Mara (51-54 kg), Nur Syafiqdin Osman (51-54 kg), Morris Hii Zhen Wei (57-60 kg) and Mohd. Eswandy Hassan (67-71 kg).
