Cycling event attracts 300 participants

KUCHING:  Three hundred members of the Sarawak Cycling Association (SCA) from various cycling clubs here took part in “Kayuhan Ambang Kemerdekaan”, a Merdeka Day cycling event, on Sunday (August 30).

The cyclists began their journey at Masjid Al-Abyad and ended up in Serian.

Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman flagged off the event, organised by Matang Jaya Cycling Club, at the mosque.

“Various programmes are organised by the government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs)to celebrate Merdeka Day every year,” he pointed out. 

Fazzrudin also highlighted that the importance of instilling patriotism in youth.

“It is not only to have a sense of love for the country but also for themselves.

“If they love the country and the state, then to some extent, they will love themselves and be good in whatever they do,” he added.

Chairman of the organising committee of the cycling event, Ahamd Zuraimi Sakawi said the programme aimed to promote unity among the participants.

“We also take the chance to promote sports tourism in Kuching,” he added.
