KUCHING: The Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) has distributed 3,000 daily packs of porridge to the public at the Sarawak State Jamek Mosque (MASJA-SA) and the Kuching City Mosque.

This programme, which began on March 20 and will run through March 29, is an annual philanthropic effort by LAKMNS to support the local community.

LAKMNS chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai said he was grateful for the generous donations that have made this programme possible.

“We are deeply thankful to the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) for their contribution of 160 kilogrammes of meat and beef bones, and to Padiberas Nasional Berhad (BERNAS) for providing 250 kilogrammes of rice,” he said when officiating the programme at MASJA-SA yesterday (Mar 22).

These contributions significantly bolster the porridge distribution initiative, reflecting SEDC’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

With eight large pots available for cooking, each pot yields nearly 400 packs of porridge, ensuring ample supply for distribution.

Abdul Wahap highlighted the collaborative efforts in preparing the porridge, involving LAKMNS staff, the MASJA-SA Youth Club, and various non-governmental organisations within the mosque premises.

The distribution process, begins after Asar prayers, will adopt a drive-thru system, a method successfully implemented in the previous year’s programme.

Earlier, LAKMNS had also contributed to the local community prior to this initiative, providing mosques and suraus with funeral management items, praying mats, sound systems, and recycling bins in the city.

Moreover, LAKMNS is inviting the Muslim community to participate in other Ramadan activities, including the Haflah al-Quran on March 27 and 28 at MASJA-SA and the Kuching City Mosque, respectively. The Last 10 Nights of Ramadan will also be observed, with Muslims engaging in Iktikaf at the two mosques from March 31 to April 9, 2024, beginning at 3 am.
