KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said a multi-agency data sharing system may be set up to weed out under-performing contractors.
He said the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, of which he is Minister, will look into this to enable state agencies to know their track record and work standard before hiring them.
“We want different agencies to know who the bad contractors are, who are not performing up to standard,” he said in a press conference after the swearing in of Kuching South City Council (MBKS) members at MBKS here, on Saturday.
At the same time, Dr Sim assured that contractors who performed satisfactorily will continue be given opportunities.
“If you are a good contractor, you have nothing to worry about. But if you are a lousy contractor, we do not accept this standard of work. We do not accept because the public will not accept.”
Meanwhile, MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the council has received many complaints on grass cutting services in its jurisdiction.
“We have received complaints this year and on behalf of the council we apologise over the matter. We will do our best to improve our situation.
“At the moment we are just trying to get all the contractors to get the job done and we have 18 zones with 12 contractors.
“But unfortunately, there are some of their performances have not been up to our expectations or standard.
“Just to update everyone, we have seven contractors we have issued warning letters to. We will terminate them after the third warning letter and they will be blacklisted for our future projects,” he said.
He added that the council is taking another step by getting three supervisors to monitor and check on complaints by the public.
Earlier, Dr Sim witnessed Wee together with his deputy Hilmy Othman and 30 MBKS councillors being sworn in.
