KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Super League debutant, PJ City FC believe they will be able to stand tall and compete strongly with all the teams in the league.

The new club, which is supported by the QI Group, will compete in the league as an affiliate of Mifa.

As their preparation for the M-League season, the team managed to secure several experienced players for the new season, both locals and foreigners.

“Besides signing experienced midfielder S. Veenod, we have also added Filipino defender, Joshua Jake Grommen and Brazilian strikers, Pedro Henrique and Giancarlo Rodrigues to the duo of Brazilian defender Elizue Batista and South Korean midfielder, Bae Beom Geun who were both retained from last season,” coach K. Devan said in a statement yesterday.

“It will be a tough season for everybody, not just for us. Every team is a good team, forget the name, forget the history, and forget the shirt. If you look at the number of foreign players, there is no such thing as teams that were weak last year necessarily being weak this year,” he added.

PJ City FC had also played several friendlies against local teams which includes a 2-1 win over Premier League side, Terengganu FC II and drew 1-1 with UKM FC last Saturday.

The new team will open their 2019 campaign with an away match against Melaka United at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Krubong, Melaka, tomorrow, while their opening home match is against Selangor and will be held at the MBPJ Stadium in Kelana Jaya on Feb 9.

“The players have undergone adequate training sessions and everyone is ready to be fielded for the match against Melaka United. I am really looking forward to the season,” said Devan.

He noted that PJ City FC’s inaugural Super League season will be measured by good performances and providing the strongest challenge especially to formidable sides like Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), Selangor and Terengganu FC. - Bernama
