BETONG: The Youth 1828 Wing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) will be the party’s legacy in ensuring that PBB will always be relevant in the country’s political struggle.

PBB president and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the youth are the digital generation that could develop the state including its political landscape in future.

“Our leaders are changing, that is why we established 1828, because they are our digital generation and they will be our legacy in bringing the party to be always relevant with our struggle in the country,” he said.

He also said that recently, during the 27th World Congress on Innovation and Technology| 6th International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (WCIT|IDECS 2023) gala dinner, he was awarded with the prestigious ‘WITSA Eminent Person Award’.

“I was surprised, because other eminent persons who have received the awards included Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Nelson Mandela. And that night, they presented me with the award.

“My recognition is the recognition of PBB because I am the leader of PBB that practises new technologies, and that is why we move forward towards digital economy policy.”

He said this when addressing the 2023 Betong Zone PBB Special Convention at Dewan Sukan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan, here today (OCT 8).

Abang Johari called upon the PBB members to keep on defending the rights of the state.

“We also must always unite in the struggle to uplift the state as a leading region in Malaysia and we also must defend our laws based on the four books namely the Federal Constitution, State Constitution, Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Inter-Governmental Committee Report (IGC) 1962,” he stressed.

He said that Sarawak should not be afraid to fight for their rights based on the books as the state is on a right track.

“Although I am not a lawyer, I have read and studied these books. And we must defend our rights,” Abang Johari said.
