Dignitaries pay last respects to Dr Chan’s mother

MIRI: Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam’s former son-in-law Datuk Seri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib Mahmud was among those who paid their last respects to Dr Chan’s mother the late Leong Lai Wah, who passed away on Tuesday.

Sulaiman is the third son of Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud. He is also a former Tourism Deputy Minister.

The late Leong passed away at her residence in Tanjong Lobang here at the age of 103.

Several dignitaries were also in attendance yesterday, including Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, ex-SUPP president Tan Sri Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui, SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting, Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Mayor Adam Yii and ex-mayor Datuk Wee Han Wen.

The mourners were received by Dr George Chan, his wife Datuk Wira Lorna Enan Muloon and loved ones, including the late Leong’s grandchildren.

The cortege left the late Leong’s residence for the Riam Chinese cemetery at 1pm.
