KUCHING: All Hands On Deck have scheduled a series of DJ shows at Zinc Kuching, namely every Friday night between September 30 and October 28.
This is in conjunction with the return of What About Kuching (WAK) 2022 event.
The series of DJ showcases, which were introduced at the WAK 2022 Calendar Reveal, will include guest DJs and live performers from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur who will also be sharing their experiences and stories about their musical careers in public masterclass sessions.
This event intends to bring together a variety of local talents, both DJs and artistes to collaborate and perform, as well as to promote local businesses, completely harnessing the power of community, according to Kiyoshi Aihara (Keeyushee), head of the organising committee and founder member of Same Faces Different Places (SFDP).
“Through our platform, mentorship DJ lessons, and demonstrations of the steps necessary to plan and carry out events from beginning to end, we hope to assist and elevate local artistes. In-depth study of technical and mechanical aspects of DJing, such as genre versatility, mixing, and production, is possible during the masterclass,” he said.
Meanwhile, co-organiser and founder of Sonic Syndicate, Fahri Izzad (Vaux) added that the event is a way to break down stereotypes associated with DJ culture, and to hopefully inspire the youth within Sarawak to explore DJing and music production as a long-term vocation.
Presale tickets are available at RM35 for each night and members of the public are encouraged to secure their tickets as soon as possible as space is limited, and tickets will be sold at RM50 after the presale period ends.
All Hands On Deck (AHOD) is a collaborative effort between three Sarawakian DJ collectives with their own distinct sounds: Nowhere (NWHR) embodies the deep and dark sounds of techno, Same Faces Different Places (SFDP) personifies booming beats and 808s, while the newest collective among the trio, Sonic Syndicate epitomises sun-sational and groove-driven tracks.
