SIBU: The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will inform the traffic police on vehicles parked indiscriminately; blocking the entrances to the popular night market at Butterfly Garden here.

SMC market and petty traders standing committee chairman Albert Tiang said it usually occurs during trading hours.

“The council will inform the traffic police on this issue.

“SMC part is only informing police to take action. SMC doesn’t have the authority to serve illegal parking compounds,” he said, adding that the police will do the patrolling and serve traffic offence compounds.

Tiang said this today (August 3) when asked on complaints from members of the public on the issue.

There are three entrance and exit points to the night market, one each at Island Road, Cross Road and Market Road.

Meanwhile, SMC building control and town beautification standing committee chairman Joseph Chieng said that such parking was making it difficult for visitors to enter and check out the place.

“You should not have any vehicle blocking the entrance to the night market here, which is illegal. Such action would also make it very inconvenient for visitors,” he said.
