KUCHING: Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How’s presence at the media dinner last night (Feb 7) was merely casual, with no ulterior motives.

The Deputy Premier was commenting on See’s attendance during the ceremony, stressing the latter’s good ties with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), and denied rumours on See’s affiliation with the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).

“He is also a member of the working committee for the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration this coming Saturday (Feb 9); we invited him to dinner so that he would not be alone,” he said.

Dr Sim was speaking to reporters after attending the media night at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

“At the same time, it is time for him (See) to move forward and think about Batu Lintang and its development.

“We do not want Batu Lintang to be left behind, especially when there are a few issues such as frequent floods in the constituency. The state government wants every constituency to be developed,” Dr Sim added.

Dr Sim, who is SUPP president, was open to anyone interested in joining his party.

“We always keep our doors open for those willing to join SUPP. Some choose to leave SUPP and never return, and I cannot comment further on that,” he added.

See left Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) in August 2022 and has been an independent assemblyman since. However, rumours have been circulating since last year that See had applied to join SUPP, which he promptly denied despite credible sources stating otherwise at the time.

News about See wanting to join SUPP gained traction after a photo surfaced online which showed him with Dr Sim and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Premier’s Office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia.
