TEBEDU: A downpour since Sunday night (Jan 9) caused 10 landslides along Jalan Kampung Sejijag here, with four of them spilling onto the road and causing them to be inaccessible by residents.

Aside from that, the downpour also caused the road to Kampung Sejijag to be inundated with floodwaters.

Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem, who was alerted of the news, went to the location to assess the situation.

“As of 11.30am, Monday (Jan 10), some of the rubble had been cleared and the road could be passed by vehicles.

“The 3.5km road is expected to be passable by vehicles this evening,” he said in a Facebook post.

He advised villagers to be cautious and stay away from landslide areas.

Accompanying Riot were Tebedu assemblyman Simon Sinang, District Officer Joseph Liaw, Serian OCPD DSP Aswandi Anis as well as firefighters, Public Works Department (JKR), Civil Defence Force (APM) and People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela).

The cleaning work was carried out by JKR while the police monitored the situation to ensure that no residents were in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, a spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department said the submerged road was only accessible by four-wheel-drive vehicles and water did not affect the houses there.
