DUN to convene on May 6 to 15

KUCHING: The Sarawak State Legislative Assembly’s (DUN) first meeting for this year is scheduled to take place from May 6 to 15.

DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar who confirmed the sitting, said it will be declared open by the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

“On May 6, the DUN will sit and we are going to witness our new Governor who will be officiating at our meeting.

“On that day, there will also be changes in the seat arrangement (of former Parti Sarawak Bersatu or PSB assemblymen),” he said during the DUN’s Hari Raya open house held at the DUN Complex on Sunday (Apr 14).

The former opposition assemblymen from the now-dissolved PSB and now part of Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), a component of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) are Bawang Assan assemblyman Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, Engkilili assemblyman Johnical Rayong Ngipa, and Ba’Kelalan assemblyman Baru Bian.

Later speaking to reporters, Asfia said he has yet to receive any proposed Bills that are to be tabled at the sitting.

“So far, I have not received it (Bills) officially. But I can assure you all, especially the young ones, the future of Sarawak is very bright,” he said.

The last DUN sitting for 2023 was held on Nov 20 to 29.
