The state government, through Yayasan Sarawak (Sarawak Foundation), allocated an initial amount of RM32.68 million in 2020 in order to help Sarawakian students repay their loans.

Since then, this initiative has benefited a total of 9,899 students who have repaid at least 30 per cent of their loans in 2020.

The occasion was marked on August 2, 2023, at the Grand Millennium Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, with the presentation of a mock cheque for RM41.84 million by Yayasan Sarawak director Mersal Abang Rosli to National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) chief executive officer Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid, in the presence of officials from both parties.

Currently, the state government has allocated a total of RM78 million to assist students in repaying their PTPTN loans.

This initiative is expected to benefit more than 22,500 Sarawakian students as of 2020, as identified by PTPTN, who have successfully completed their studies and paid off at least 30 per cent of their PTPTN loans.

In an effort to alleviate financial pressures on students, particularly those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation functioned as an intermediary between the state government and PTPTN in this initiative; hence students do not need to apply for the incentive.

Students may check for updates on the incentive at www.ptptn.gov.my from time to time. They can contact PTPTN directly with any inquiries about the incentive.

Borrowers who missed out on the previous batches should not worry, as PTPTN will soon release the next list of eligible borrowers.
