Education to transform state’s human capital – Premier

KUCHING: Having education is important as the long-term strategy to uplift the human capital in the state, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said with education is the key for the people to transform themselves, and one could not get away without having the appropriate knowledge.

“With the knowledge you get, you can improve and create new talent among us. And this talent must be in line with the tempo of transformation worldwide,” he said.

He said the young generation especially, must also learn on digital economy whereby the internet provides a world without barriers.

“This what the worldwide web is – in other words, you have to create that web of connectivity among us where the technology transcends racial barriers,” he added.

He said this during the Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association (SDGA) 21st anniversary dinner here on Friday (Dec 16).

Abang Johari said young graduates who are planning their future must understand the trend that is happening worldwide.

At the same time, he also said that the state is committed towards its use of green technology for a better environment for everyone.

“Today the world is facing the climate change, there is flooding but at the same time, there are dry areas,” he said.

He added that the recent landslide disaster occurring in Batang Kali, in Peninsular Malaysia was a catastrophe brought about by the state of the environment which is imbalanced.

“We in Sarawak, we are very fortunate, we took the step earlier (towards environmental sustainability),” he said.
