Eight community leaders appointed

SIBU: A total of eight community leaders (KMKK) were appointed for both Pelawan and Bukit Assek constituencies yesterday.

The letter of appointment was presented by Sibu Resident Wong Hie Sieng, witnessed by Pelawan assemblyman Michael Tiang Ming Tee and Bukit Assek assemblyman Chieng Jin Ek.

For the Pelawan constituency, two Penghulu were appointed – Penghulu Stephen Yong Che Ching for Sungai Aup, Teku, Engkalat and Penasu, and Penghulu Ting Tien Huat for Sibu Tengah.

Meanwhile, for the Bukit Assek constituency, three Penghulu and one Kapitan were appointed – Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee for the Teochew community, Penghulu Soon Choon Hoo for Sibu Timur, Penghulu Tie Hieng Kung for Bandar Sibu and Kapitan Kuo Chin Woo for Pulau Keladi.

Apart from that, three Temenggong were reappointed – Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce Tuanku Mohd and Datuk Lau Lee Ming for Sibu Division, and Temenggong Stanley Geramong Bandar for Sibu District.

Wan Hamid Edruce, 76, when met by the media after the ceremony said he had been Temenggong for more than 20 years.

“I’m grateful to the state government for my reappointment. I will try my best to help the Sibu community, especially Melanau, Malay and Iban communities. I am not yet satisfied with the development of Sibu.

“I hope everyone will put aside their political differences and focus on the important things instead for the future of the younger generation.”
Geramong, 63, also thanked the state government for its trust in him. “I will try my best to fulfil my responsibilities, especially for the Iban community in Sibu. I hope we can work together to develop the community because if we can work together, everything will be possible.”
